The fake elytra is a disguised copper chestplate. Wear it and it looks and behaves like an elytra on your screen.

Jump twice and go

Jump, then jump again in mid-air to open the wings. Rockets work the way they always have. There is nothing to configure.

Do I take fall damage?
Not yet, since you guys wanted the release sooner 😭
What if it randomly stops flying?
The flight stops working, and it stops within minutes rather than at the end of your session. The numbers that make it work are not stored in the jar at all. They arrive inside the signed check response and they go stale on their own, so a copy that stops checking in is a copy that stops flying.
